Amani ya Juu is seeking an energetic Shop Manager for its Mt. Pleasant boutique who will provide visionary leadership to promote and manage shop operations. An ideal candidate will have an eye for visual merchandising, excellent customer service and organization skills.

Amani ya Juu (Swahili for “higher peace”) is a holistic sewing and training program for marginalized women based in East Africa. Amani’s selection of products is made out of local African materials by women learning to work in peace in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Liberia. Established in 2009, AmaniDC consists of a retail boutique for Amani products, along with the main US office and warehouse.

Responsibilities:

• Manage marketing for shop
  • Plan and execute visual merchandising plan
  • Plan and execute promotions
  • Manage AmaniDC blog & produce electronic marketing campaigns
  • Oversee development of other marketing materials for AmaniDC
  • Plan events and off-site activities to gain exposure for AmaniDC and forge partnerships with other nonprofits, ministries, businesses, & neighborhood associations
• Coordinate volunteer support for shop
  • Follow-up with potential local volunteers
  • Train, assign, and schedule volunteers

• Manage AmaniDC shop general operations
  • Schedule staff & volunteers to cover shop hours
  • Ensure general shop upkeep

• Coordinate DC permitting and registration renewal/compliance
• Oversee accurate financial tracking for shop
  • Work with Country Director to produce goals for shop growth
  • Track progress on sales projections and adapt as necessary
  • Ensure accurate financial records for income and expenses under oversight of Country Director and Financial Assistant

Qualifications:
We’re seeking an individual who is passionate about sharing Amani ya Juu through the shop and events, exhibits excellent organization and communication skills, and has a knack for compelling displays and events. You should have:

• Retail or customer service experience
• Great people skills, preferably with project management experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Personal commitment to the mission of Amani ya Juu

This position is part-time at 30 hr/wk. Compensation includes a base hourly rate with bonuses based on commission.
